New To Theatres This Weekend – Jan. 19, 2007
Only one major new release this weekend, it is Dave Meyers’ remake of The Hitcher starring Sean Bean. Meh. A number of smaller films are expanding to more theatres this week as the Oscars approach, including Clint Eastwood’s Letters From Iwo Jima, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth, and Bill Condon’s Dreamgirls. In limited release we have Roger Michell’s Venus, starring Peter O’Toole.
Dreamgirls (expanding)
The Hitcher
The Last King of Scotland (expanding)
Letters From Iwo Jima (expanding)
Pan’s Labyrinth (expanding)
Venus (limited)

I wish I lived in North America because I want to see all four of the movies that are expanding.
Alas, I must arm myself with patience.
Posted by Henrik on January 19th, 2007WTF Sean? Pan’s Labyrinth still isn’t playing in Niagara yet! You gotta do something about that.
Posted by Nuno on January 19th, 2007Man, we are totally getting gheyed now that the Fairview Mall is gone.
Posted by Sean on January 19th, 2007Man, even The Last King of Scotland isn’t anywhere near us. How hard is it to run a movie theatre? I suggest filmjunk should own and operate their own.
Posted by Nuno on January 19th, 2007Is gheyed defined or does it just mean something like sux0rs?
Posted by Henrik on January 19th, 2007What? The Last King of Scotland is only expanding NOW???? WTF? I’ve seen that at the local theater since November! WOW.
Posted by Marina on January 19th, 2007On the bright side…you could always see “The Hitcher”…
Posted by Marina on January 19th, 2007My resolution this year was to catch more of the movies that interest me while they’re still in theatres but the friggin’ Niagara cinemas aren’t helping.
Posted by Nuno on January 19th, 2007I just saw Pan’s Labyrinth here in Toronto. It’s worth the trip up from the N dot.
