Clooney To Produce The Diamond Age Mini-Series for Sci-Fi Channel
Looks like George Clooney has another pet project on the horizon: a TV mini-series based on the Neal Stephenson novel The Diamond Age. I haven’t read the book but it sounds interesting; it’s about a nanotech engineer who steals a virtual reality book for his daughter to help her overcome the stifling of creativity in this future world. Stephenson is probably best known for writing Snow Crash, which could be the second most important cyberpunk novel ever written (right behind William Gibson’s Neuromancer).
The six-hour mini-series will air on the Sci-Fi Channel, who seem to have a lot of new programs in development at the moment. If it’s up to the quality of The Lost Room, which aired last month, then this is something I’d definitely watch. Stephenson himself will be writing the screenplay, while frequent Clooney collaborator Grant Heslov (Unscripted, Good Night and Good Luck.) will co-executive produce.
