Borat Coming to DVD in March

It was the undisputed comedy hit of the year (well, okay maybe it can be disputed considering thatTalladega Nights and Click made more money) but certainly the critical favourite of the year was Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. It seems like some of the hype ended up detracting from people’s overall enthusiasm for this movie, but I for one can’t wait to experience it again on DVD.

DVD Times has the deets on the March release of this highly anticipated title, which despite the many lawsuits, will not have any scenes removed or changed from the theatrical cut. Extras include 5 deleted scenes, a deleted footage montage featuring never-before-seen clips, and a publicity tour montage including appearances at the Toronto International Film Festival, Cannes, Comic-Con, and more. I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed with the special features listed there… I was expecting a huge stockpile of deleted scenes (didn’t they release more than 5 on the internet already?) and doing a simple montage of the other deleted footage seems a bit lazy. Plus, no audio commentary in character? What I’d really like to see is some true behind the scenes stuff about how they set up some of the gags, but I know they’d never give away those precious secrets. Still, it definitely looks like they’re saving up for a special edition release somewhere down the road. Look for Borat in stores on March 6th, 2007.

  1. Was it true larry charles was in talks with HBO to make a TV series out of all the unused footage?

  2. I hadn’t heard that but I guess that could explain the lack of extras. Wouldn’t Fox still own all the unused footage that was shot though?

  3. I would have actually preferred Borat if they had only included the scenes where he interacted with people who didn’t know who he was. I found most of the scripted stuff pretty silly. It was still worth watching but I don’t think I’ll actually pick this up on DVD.
