Norbit Runs Into Trouble Obtaining PG-13 Rating

I have to admit I laughed at the trailer for Eddie Murphy’s latest upcoming film Norbit, but mainly out of embarrassment for the guy. It looks like the same dumb, predictable humour we’ve been seeing from him for years now. Strangely, it seems the movie is having some trouble hitting its target rating of PG-13. Upon its initial examination by the MPAA, Norbit received a fairly hefty rating of “R” due to some sex-related jokes. I hate to say it, but maybe this is why Eddie Murphy has been struggling all these years! He’s been doing all these tame, family-friendly comedies, when really he is more of an R-rated guy. If Dreamworks was smart, they’d keep in some of the edgier material and aim for an older audience. I guess it’s probably a little late for that now though. They’re going to have to move fast if they want to do some trimming to reach the PG-13 rating; Norbit hits theatres a few weeks from now on February 9th.
