New Grindhouse Teaser Absolutely Owns You
If you thought the leaked Grindhouse footage from Spike TV’s Scream Awards looked hot, wait till you get a load of the first official teaser trailer, now online over at Yahoo!. The trailer itself is done up like an old school b-movie trailer, and it just rules from start to finish. Maybe I’m getting a little carried away with praise for this movie, but seriously, it just looks like so much fun. Lots of quirky characters and fun action sequences, anti-heroes and great one-liners… this is the kind of movie I want to watch again and again. It’s also the kind of trailer I want to watch again and again. Go ahead and enjoy it (along with a handful of new pics) right now by following the link below.

The more I see from this, the more it feels like a spoof. This didn’t seem like it was a real grindhouse movie, this just seemed like a *wink wink, nudge nudge – look fanboys aren’t we cool?* trailer.
Pick something for crying out loud. Do you want to make a grindhouse picture, or a spoof-movie? The voice-over totally ruined everything for me, but to be fair, I have been skeptical from the beginning.
Posted by Henrik on December 21st, 2006I think it might be a pseudo-spoof, you know something like Escape from L.A. which worked as a spoof on New York but also was an awesome movie in it’s own way. I think directors like Tarantino and Rodriguez have shown in past flicks that they can reference old material and still keep it interesting and exciting even with the *nudge nudge*. My only problem is that Kurt Russel is such a great action star I’d have trouble if he were gonna be playing the bad guy … not Jack Burton. Still Machine gun leg seems kind of hoaky.
Posted by Ian on December 21st, 2006The machine gun leg does nothing for me. I don’t think it’s a cool idea at all. I just think it’s weird.
I think that Tarantino has shown with Kill Bill that he is not able to ‘pay tribute’ to something and still make a good movie. I thought Kill Bill 1 (sigh) was painful to sit through… After Kill Bill 2 (sigh) got so many good reviews, I watched it and thought it was painful to sit through. I remember him on Charlie Rose going on about how americans used to tell a story, and now they only told a situation. Will Kill Bill (BOTH OF THE PARTS OF THE FUCKING MOVIE) are just a situation. There was no story, and the characters were far from real or even interesting enough to follow them through the simplest of plots.
I hope that Tarantino will try and make a good movie again (Pulp Fiction is in my top 3 comedies of all time I’d say) instead of all these fucking experiments.
I have never been a big fan of Rodriguez… Of his trilogy, I only liked Desperado. The faculty wasn’t a great movie either. I never saw his Spy Kids movies, and didn’t see Sin City.
Posted by Henrik on December 21st, 2006Well Pulp Fiction was a collection of “situations.” Is it greater character development, in a more drawn out narrative that follows the Aristotlean arch, which makes something a true “story”?
Posted by Ian on December 21st, 2006Hey, I don’t look for a story everytime I see a movie. It’s Tarantino who was complaining about how he felt people were telling situations. He defined a story as something that was unfolding. Not a quick left-turner or right-turner but something that kept unfolding before you. And then he went and made Kill Bill (vol 1 and 2 *sigh*).
Posted by Henrik on December 21st, 2006Henrik, you seem to have a strange litmus test on movies. after what you say about the Departed, and now Tarantino and Rodriguez, somethings up with you. What movies are fun to you then?
Posted by Goon on December 22nd, 2006What movies are fun to me? The Departed was fun to me. I laughed alot when Jack Nicholson was on screen. Especially the scene with the chinese. Also Alec Baldwin was funny in it.
Sideways is funny. Pulp Fiction is funny. Dr Strangelove extremely funny. Some Like It Hot, Borat, The Little Mermaid… Tons of movies are fun to me.
From Dusk Till Dawn was very good, and a more honest Grindhouse movie than this will be.
What does litmus test mean? I do agree that something is up with me though. What it is remains to be seen.
Posted by Henrik on December 22nd, 2006I think Henrik is wound too tight. Maybe he needs to get laid.
