DFA Film Critics Association Predicts Oscar Win for United 93

Everyone likes to try and predict Oscar winners, but it rarely turns out to be as easy as you might first think. Just ask anyone who’s ever entered an Oscar pool; they’ll tell you that beyond obvious stand-out performances, no one really knows what the heck the Academy is thinking. However, there is one group that have proven to be fairly consistent at predicting the Oscars as of late. Over the past 5 years, the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association have correctly guessed the Best Film 4 times (missing only last year’s surprise upset winner Crash). So what’s their pick for Best Film this year? Why, none other than Paul Greengrass’ United 93. It’s an interesting choice when you consider that neither United 93 or World Trade Center got any love at the Golden Globes this year. Maybe 9/11 movies will still get some recognition after all. You can check out the DFA’s full list of winners over at their official website: www.dfwfilmcritics.com.

  1. This is bait for talking about Oscar snubs… I will take it.

Road to Perdition was overlooked at the oscars, and is still underappreciated. Tom Hanks should have won an oscar for it. It’s – by far – his best performance.

  2. No way, Turner and Hooch was easily his best performance.

  3. Well I have no idea what that movie is, but I’m guessing that’s a joke?

I like you, but if you’re joking about this, I’m guessing you didn’t see Road to Perdition.

  4. I won’t hijack another topic…

I think Babel was the best movie I saw this year, better than United 93. I thought all the scenes on the plane were incredibly well done, but all the stuff on the ground, I didn’t find as exciting. Where the scenes on the plane actually engaged me emotionally – and I’m a pretty big fan of these people. To me they are real heroes, american or otherwise!, – the stuff on the ground was a little boring I thought. I am not saying that they should have left it out though, if I had made the movie I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Just for me personally, it didn’t resonate.
