Weekly Poll Results: Best Cryptic Movie
Last week’s poll was a survey of your favourite “cryptic films”, which was really just a nice way of saying “favourite mindfucks”. Everyone loves a good mindfuck every now and then right? #1 and #2 are pretty obvious: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Donnie Darko. People love both of these movies (I like them too) but to be fair they are a little light as far as the weirdness factor goes. 12 Monkeys, Dark City and Vanilla Sky rounded out the top 5 (Vanilla Sky being one of few of these types of movies that I really didn’t like). There’s plenty more out there, so let us know what some of your other faves are. Next week’s poll: best action franchise (can you tell we just thought of it today?).
1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind — 31.3%
2. Donnie Darko — 22.6%
3. 12 Monkeys — 14.8%
4. Dark City — 8.7%
5. Vanilla Sky — 7.0%
6. Cube — 5.2%
7. Eraserhead — 4.3%
8. Existenz — 2.6%
9. The Fountain — 1.7%
9. The Jacket — 1.7%

Vanilla Sky had no point. It was nearly a shot for shot remake of the original (Abre los Ojos — which I really like). I like Vanilla Sky too, kind of by default…. but, it was a weird choice on Cameron Crowe’s part.
I also am yet to see like _half_ of these, yikes. I swear, there’s too many freakin’ movies I need to see still.

Wow… not one mention of “Tetsuo, the Iron Man” or “Lost Highway”?
Although with a short list of only ten I guess one should expect a few gems to be left out. I’m kind of surprised that “2001: A Space Odyssey” didn’t make the cut either. I don’t know about you people, but the end of that movie did an adequate job of blowing MY mind.
