New TMNT CG Trailer Hits The Web
Finally, a closer look at the upcoming computer animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film! After seeing the initial teaser, my excitement for this project had dropped quite a bit, but I have to say, they’ve really won me back with this new full-length trailer. The style is still cartoony, but it almost looks like a 3D version of Batman: The Animated Series. Lots of shadows and dark colours, and it even has a bit of that Art Deco style going on. It seems like they’re going to hit a good balance of kiddy humour, fun action sequences and slightly more serious themes. The voices sound decent too, although they haven’t announced who any of the actors are besides Quinton Flynn as Casey Jones and Mako as Splinter.
The trailer is now playing over at MTV, but unfortunately it’s not visible outside of the U.S. So instead you can see the trailer as it premiered on G4TV via YouTube. (While you’re at it, check out some full episodes of the old cartoon too!) TMNT hits theatres on March 30, 2007.

whats funny is i had an opposite impression – kinda liking the teaser but not a fan of this trailer…
Posted by Goon on December 8th, 2006Really? What didn’t you like about the new one?
Posted by Sean on December 8th, 2006i dont know. i dont care if the movie is ‘dark’ or light fun, but the first trailer gave the impression it would be more dark (except for that last joke) so i wasnt prepared for all the groaners, gags and style of voice acting. definitely caught off guard.
maybe if i wait a bit i’d like it next time, but “well this just looks like a CGI version of the new tv show” was my trailer impression.
Posted by Goon on December 8th, 2006looking at it again, its not the visuals/action, it really is some of the dialogue (ie “i’ve got a bad feeling”) and especially the trailer type “between two worlds” shit…
cant say i’m thrilled with this weird alien direction rather than the traditional shredder route but we’ll see.
Posted by Goon on December 8th, 2006Oh my fucking god.
That was the best trailer I have seen in a long time. I think the direction this is going is probably the best possible. I definitely don’t have a problem with Michelangelo being a goofball… If I saw this movie and Michelangelo all of a sudden was a serious guy I would have major issues adjusting. He is one of the original goofballs to me. “Dude she looks like your mom”? Awesome.
I really liked the voice-acting. Innocent and clean and it sounds like real people, not stylized in any way like the Pixar movies. Most importantly it sounds all-american and I think that was important with this movie. Maybe it’s more of a personal thing but this cartoon was one of the major learning tools for me when I was a young child, and among other shows like it, it taught me english. And they still sound the same. Huge deal for me.
The action looks amazing. Shredder looked badass… I was pretty blown away by this trailer. I can’t wait for this movie.
Posted by Henrik on December 8th, 2006I liked the teaser a lot more than I like this trailer. It’s hard to say but I think it’s the voice talent doesn’t do it for me. I’m still interested in seeing it because it was a show that I loved growing up but…what happened to “Cowabunga” (sp?)??
Posted by Marina on December 8th, 2006Where can I find the image from this post in desktop-size? I didn’t think I would do this, but I want to change my Spider-Man 3 image to this.
Posted by Henrik on December 8th, 2006i cant say that i am interested in seeing at all. i might be interested in seeing The Smurfs in CG, but this doesnt look good.
Posted by Chopper on December 8th, 2006CG vs. Traditional Animation? I think this film would be a whole lot better if they did it in traditional animation (the new show (on tv) looks pretty good); the characters look awkward in CG…..
Posted by roy on December 9th, 2006Probably goes without saying but I think it looks great. I agree that the newer show on TV looked good as well, but it’s TV. It probably wouldn’t work on the big screen. And I don’t think you would ever get to make a 2D-turtles movie at this point… It would probably have to be 3D.
Like I said before, I think the direction this is going in looks amazing. The archetypes seem to be preserved (Leonardo leads, Donatello does machining) and at the same time this is Ninja turtles and not Hero turtles, and I’m hoping for some wicked ninja action. Possibly training sequences, combo moves, the whole deal. It would be amazing. And the 3D helps when you have to have characters touching and interacting in action sequences. It frees the camera and you are able to create more elaborate ‘moves’ so to speak.
So yeah, I think it looks great. I can’t fucking wait to see this on a big screen.
Posted by Henrik on December 9th, 2006The teaser looked incredible, but this trailer just killed my drive to see the movie by about 80%. The whole space alien threat is too wacky and zany and cartoon for me to put up with.
Posted by manic panda on December 9th, 2006But I thought there were space aliens in the original comic book series too?
I guess after the first trailer I just accepted that this is going to be a kid-friendly flick (as it should be). I think it will be fun, as long as they can make it look “cinematic” enough to be worth seeing in the theatre. And I thought this trailer showed that.
Posted by Sean on December 10th, 2006But where did you find that picture…??
Posted by Henrik on December 10th, 2006Oh, sorry, check out http://www.movieweb.com. Lots of great movie stills.
