i like the Lecter series alot, i just dont know about this one. i will still check it out and give it a chance though. this is the 6th movie and not the 5th movie in the series, i think people forget that Red Dragon was actually a remake of Manhunter and the original Lecter was Brian Cox.

I'm with Henrik. I liked Red Dragon a fair bit too. As for this prequel, I agree that it looks nice and to be honest, I'm a fan enough of the series to be vaguely interested in this.

Burbanked: I've never read the book. Sorry, can't help on the mask question.

"And don’t bash Brett Ratner… He’s alright. Like Steven Spielberg with lower budgets." Brilliant.

I keep asking this question at various comment strings having to do with this story, but so far no one's answered.

Which means that either there is no answer or perhaps no one likes me.

Either way: has anyone read this book yet and if so, what is the reason that the mask is in this story? Didn't the iconic mask begin in the Lector canon as simply a restraint device in SOTL - and how can they possibly integrate it into the character's backstory without it feeling like a silly marketing tie-in?

I have loved all of the Hannibal movies. Red Dragon is awesome. Not because of Brett Ratner though, he mentions several times on his commentary track that his biggest function was to get the script on screen, which is good, since the script is awesome. Ralph Fiennes is remarkable in it, and it's probably my favourite part that Phillip Seymour Hoffman has ever done. He's awesome in it.

I'm unable to see this trailer... No idea wether or not this will be interesting.. I'll probably wait for the reviews. Just wanted to chime in on the subject... Don't bash Red Dragon.

And don't bash Brett Ratner... He's alright. Like Steven Spielberg with lower budgets.
