Alien Suit Stolen From The Set of Alien vs Predator 2
Sometimes I have to wonder why anyone would want to work on a turd of a movie like Alien vs Predator 2 (aside from the whole paycheck aspect of it), but now we know at least one good reason why someone would risk tarnishing their career for it. Apparently a member of the crew has made off with one of the alien suits from the film, and is now seeking to make a quick buck by selling it online. Is it really that easy to walk off the set with an alien, unnoticed? And how has this guy not already been caught? A quick search on E-Bay didn’t seem to turn anything up, so maybe this guy isn’t as stupid as he seems.
I’d be curious to see how much a prop like this would fetch from collectors. 20th Century Fox is understandably angry about the situation, especially since the creature designs were supposed to be a closely guarded secret. Word on the street is that the new alien design is much closer to the style seen in James Cameron’s Aliens. Unfortunately that still won’t be enough to get me to pay to see this flick.

Were the Aliens different…? I kinda laughed when I read the ‘design’ would be a secret. That’s like if they said about the Star Wars prequels “The weapons the Jedi are going to wield is a close guarded secret”.
Anyway, here’s hoping the predators actually get to hunt something this time.
Posted by Henrik on November 30th, 2006I have to ask though, did you pay to see the first AvP movie? If so, why wouldn’t you see this one? It has by far the more interesting director(s)… At least to me. I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if it actually turns out to be halfway decent, and if it’s halfway decent it’s a massive improvement.
Posted by Henrik on November 30th, 2006I saw the first one against my better judgment, and it was a waste of time. I am not at all curious to see who “wins” in the rematch.
For the most part these “versus” movies are just lame. I will admit that Freddy vs Jason was surprisingly fun, but all these fanboys get excited about crossovers between two unrelated geek franchises and it almost never works. I need a story, not an entire movie built around one climactic battle scene. Especially not one as ridiculous as aliens versus predators.
As for The Brothers Strause, I suppose they could do something interesting with it. It’s that whole special effects/music video background thing again, and I don’t know much about them. But I do know you still need some good source material to work with, and in this case they’ve got a screenplay written by one of the guys who did Armageddon.
I’m sure the effects will be good, but as long as it’s PG-13 again there’s simply no point.
Posted by Sean on November 30th, 2006Hmm… I think maybe you hated the first one more than I did. I didn’t think it was too bad. It’s like The Running Man or Commando, ridiculous setup, 2d characters and some lame one-liners. The only problem I had really was that the action sucked. But I don’t really think more gore would change that…
The original Alien has almost no gore in it, right? At least that’s how I remember it. And of course that’s a very different sort of movie, but I don’t necessarily expect tons of gore just because it’s an Alien vs Predator movie. I think with some nice effects and some cool action it could be a good movie to watch. Like Van Helsing.
I much prefer something like this where they don’t even try and excuse their ridiculous movies, instead of something like the Pirates of the caribbean movies where they just drag on and on and on with lame attempts at weaving together this grand story that makes everything fit, and forget how to make a compelling action scene in the process.
Posted by Henrik on November 30th, 2006Back it up, Henrik. Van Helsing was a good movie to watch?
Posted by Nuno on November 30th, 2006Yeah I enjoyed it. I have enjoyed all of Stephen Sommers’ movies. I find that they deliver the CGI-action fest that I expect when I go to see them, as opposed to like I said before, something like Pirates, which is supposed to be fun but becomes insanely boring.
Van Helsing isn’t as good as Deep Rising or Mummy Returns, but it’s better than most action movies out there. I enjoy the eye-candy in form of the CGI, and even though there are plenty of shitty scenes and hokey moments, I enjoy it.
I thought that AvP, while not on the level of Sommers’ better movies, delivered pretty much what I expected, and even though that doesn’t make it a good movie by any standard, it does mean that I didn’t leave with a huge sense of disappointment and dissatisfaction. I actually came away from it rather satisfied.
Posted by Henrik on December 1st, 2006Does anyone remember the Nintendo Power players poll contest where you could win a life sized, 7 foot tall Alien off the set of Alien 3? Man I wish I had one that one. Even more than the Waynes World Fender Strat.
