Paul Feig’s Next Project: Smooth Operator

Paul Feig, best known as one-half of the team that created the cult TV show Freaks & Geeks, has a new movie coming out on December 8th called Unaccompanied Minors. The jury is still out on whether or not it will prove to be a holiday classic, but in the meantime Feig is looking ahead to his next project, which will be another comedy for Warner Bros called Smooth Operator. The story is about a CIA spy who must train a computer nerd to become a sexy and sophisticated secret agent capable of seducing a female enemy operative. Feig describes it as “Hitch meets Rush Hour” but to me it sounds a little bit like his buddy Judd Apatow’s The 40 Year Old Virgin meets James Bond. What are the odds that they’ll time it to release around the same time as Get Smart?

I’ll admit that it sounds pretty formulaic and obvious, but then again so did The 40 Year Old Virgin. I’ll give this one a chance, at least until we hear who might be starring in it. What I’d really like to see, however, is a big screen adaptation of Feig’s autobiographical book Superstud. I haven’t read it yet but I hear it’s nothing short of hilarious.
