What’s this? A Christmas movie that might actually be good? Too bad it’s not coming out until 2007! Fred Claus is a holiday comedy from David Dobkin, the director of Wedding Crashers, that stars Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti. I guess the idea is that Santa has a deadbeat older brother named Fred, who moves in with him and screws up everything. So basically it’s You, Me and Dupree at the North Pole? The movie also co-stars Kevin Spacey as the villain Clyde, and Ludacris as an “angry elf”. The teaser trailer doesn’t show any footage from the movie; I’m pretty sure they just plopped Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti in front of the camera and told them to “make funny”. But it works. If this is going to be another R-rated comedy in the vein of Bad Santa, I think it could be very good. I know one thing: I’ll never grow tired of Vince Vaughn playing himself.
