Borat To Get Semi-Limited Release, Sacha Baron Cohen Plans Next Movie

Are you ready for more Borat news? No? Well too bad, cause that’s all anyone wants to talk about! Over at Cinema Blend they’ve got a couple more interesting tidbits, the first of which is the somewhat strange news that 20th Century Fox is giving Borat a semi-limited release for its opening weekend, with plans to expand depending on how successful it is. The movie will debut in 800 theatres on November 3rd. What this means is that if you live out in the middle of nowhere, you’ll probably have to drive somewhere more densely populated to see it. I guess it kind of makes sense, especially if they’re expecting the movie to go over the heads of small town minds. All I really care about is that the movie still comes to my small town.

To put the number in perspective, however, Marie Antoinette opened on 859 screens last weekend and it was hardly difficult to find (at least in my area). However, that’s still a far cry from say, Snakes On A Plane, which opened on 3,883 screens. I guess they just want to be cautious and start small, letting word of mouth increase demand once the early adopters see it.

The other piece of news that Cinema Blend offers is that Sacha Baron Cohen is already preparing for his next movie. It won’t be a Borat movie though, since he is obviously too recognizable now. It won’t be a Bruno movie either (referring to his gay Austrian fashion journalist from Da Ali G Show). Instead he’s come up with a completely new character that he is keeping under wraps for the time being, and he will be shooting another reality-based movie next summer with director Jay Roach (Meet The Parents, Austin Powers). Cohen is an amazing character actor, and a complete chameleon as far as I’m concerned. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
