I think this pretty much settles it… every single prominent horror franchise ever made in the history of film is at some stage of preparation for a remake right now. Hellraiser is the latest to be added to the long list of horror remakes, but fans will probably take some consolation in the fact that Clive Barker himself is going to be writing it. According to Barker, he was invited by Bob Weinstein to pen the script for the remake, which will have a much larger budget to work with than the original did. “The invitation came from Bob Weinstein – which I am going to do, on the basis that if I don’t do it, it will be done in some way that I probably won’t like! It’s only that one that I really, really, really care about in terms of its remake value - and it’ll be kind of fun to have the extra money to do the effects and all that cool stuff.” It sounds like Barker himself won’t be directing, which is kind of too bad considering that the last time he was behind the camera was over 10 years ago (1995’s Lord of Illusions).
