Weekly Poll Results: Most Controversial Movies
Out of all the polls we’ve done so far, this one was probably the least subjective, and yet it was still interesting to see what came out on top. And according to Film Junk readers around the world, it looks like Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange is the most controversial movie, followed closely by Cannibal Holocaust. Coming in at #3 and 4 were a couple of more recent movies, the French film Irreversible and Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. I was surprised that so many people knew about or had seen Irreversible. Did any of the results surprise you? Which controversial movies did we overlook? Next week’s poll is a pretty hard one to narrow down just to 10 choices: most memorable movie deaths.
1. A Clockwork Orange – 19.9%
2. Cannibal Holocaust – 19.3%
3. Irreversible – 15.8%
4. The Passion of the Christ – 15.2%
5. Fahrenheit 9/11 – 8.2%
6. Kids – 6.4%
6. The Last Temptation of Christ – 6.4%
8. Pink Flamingos – 4.7%
9. The Da Vinci Code – 2.9%
10. I Spit On Your Grave – 1.2%

I guess I spat out my opinion on the controversial stuff on the podcast comments.
I haven’t seen Irreversible because when it came out all I heard was that it had some horrific rape scene, and it didn’t sound like something I would want to sit through.
Controversy for controversy’s sake is ridiculous. That’s why Clockwork Orange rules so fucking much. (No joke. Watch it.)
Posted by Henrik on October 3rd, 2006Irreversible isn’t that bad just fast forward through the 11 minute rape scene.
Posted by Croft on October 3rd, 200611 minutes? WOW. I’d never even heard of this one but I may have to rent it and ff through that torture fest. As for the top result, I’m not all that ruprised. Clockwork Orange has been pushing buttons for decades and it’s still as touchy as it was when it was originally released.
