This Week on DVD – Oct. 3, 2006

This week’s biggest high profile release is probably X-Men: The Last Stand, which is available in both a standard version and a collector’s edition. Speaking of collector’s editions, I don’t think I’ve seen quite so many special edition double dips released in one day… just look at the list! Some of the smaller releases that I am interested in are Thank You For Smoking, Stuart Gordon’s Edmond, and Lucky McKee’s The Woods. What are you picking up this week?

  1. what’s the word on The Woods? I really liked Mckee’s MAY but then his contribution to the masters of horror films sucked.

sean, buy it and let me borrow?

  2. There’s a couple there that I’ll have to add to the rental que and as much as I loved “Thank You for Smoking” it’s not one I can see myself watching over and over again – I may still surprise myself and pick it up. What I am picking up for sure is “The Little Mermaid”. Yes boys and girls, my fav Disney flick is finally available on DVD and I’m picking myself up a copy of this sucker before it goes back into the pain in the freakin’ ass “Disney Vault”.

  3. Oh shit I missed little mermaid on that list. That movie fucking rules. If I have the cash I may pick it up. I’m not very big on animated stuff, especially the 3D-animation, but this is one that I watched as a child and naturally I have a non-rational relationship with the movie.

Plus the villain is fucking an evil genius, something that no animated movie today seems to think is important. Instead of monstrous manipulative bad-ass queens of evil turning her enemies into slaves at her feet, we get what? A pissed off fan-boy in The Incredibles?

  4. i spent an extra three bucks at future shop to get X-Men in the tin box (only on sale today for cheaper)… the only addition is a comic book, but i just could not feel comfortable buying the incredibly, incredibly shitty regular version they put out, with its awful cover photo and terrible use of French English packaging…

when they hell are they going to learn and just print one side French and the other English like New Line used to do (eg Hedwig’s packaging)? i mean, even these Fr/Eng ones out now are reversible packaging? whats the point of that?

  5. well Little Mermaid is on top of my list, hehehe. do you think that there are enough Special In Your Face Edition DVDs out or what.
