Weekly Poll Results: Movies That Were Better When You Were A Kid

Last week’s poll was all about how perceptions of movies change as you get older. Some movies still appeal to you many years later, either for nostalgic reasons or because they’re just good movies, while others simply don’t hold up to your original memories. It was tough to come up with poll choices for this one because I think it’s such a subjective question. However, I was pretty surprised to see Howard The Duck at number 1… does this mean people actually liked it when they were a kid? Personally, it just kind of freaked me out. The Never Ending Story came in at number 2, while Bill and Ted found themselves sitting at a totally heinous #3 position. I can’t believe Adventures in Babysitting was last on the list… either that means no one saw it when they were a kid (which I doubt), or people still love it today! Weird. What other childhood movies don’t hold up for you nowadays?

1. Howard The Duck — 23.9%
2. The Never Ending Story — 15%
3. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure — 12.4%
4. Short Circuit — 9.7%
5. Grease — 8.8%
5. Garbage Pail Kids: The Movie — 8.8%
7. Mrs. Doubtfire — 7.1%
7. The Goonies — 7.1%
9. The Sound of Music — 5.3%
10. Adventures in Babysitting — 1.8%

  1. I have no idea what Howard the Duck is, but that picture looks hilarious.

Is it really about somebody in a disney-esque Duck costume? That would rule!
