Preview Norm MacDonald’s New Comedy Album “Ridiculous”

There’s no denying that over the years Saturday Night Live has been a breeding ground for some of the funniest people in showbiz. I haven’t really followed it much recently (even after the wildly popular “Lazy Sunday” sketch), but when I think back to the 80’s and the early 90’s, this show seemed to set the bar for comedy at the time. One of my favourites of all the SNL alumni is Norm MacDonald, best known for hosting the Weekend Update for a few years before being fired from the gig in 1997. A lot of people thought he simply wasn’t funny (at least, that was the main argument for firing him at the time) but his very blunt and deadpan style of acting was nothing if not distinctive (and he was never afraid to stir controversy either). After starring in a few movies and sitcoms without any real success, he has now returned to the spotlight with a new sketch comedy album called Ridiculous.

I’ve never really liked sketch comedy albums that much (although just about everyone I know was absolutely obsessed with Adam Sandler’s They’re All Gonna Laugh At You! once upon a time) and I’m not sure if this one will be any different. But I am curious, and you can currently listen to one of the sketches from the album over at the Dead Frog comedy blog. It’s called “The World’s First Two Gay Guys” and it features Will Ferrell doing his Harry Caray voice. Give it a listen now via the link below.

  1. i downloaded and listened to it the other day…

aside from the opening track and the hidden track of dated standup, this is the WORST comedy album I’ve ever heard in my life. I find Norm MacDonald inherently funny, but its clearly shown here that actually WRITING sketch comedy is something he cant do. every joke is stretched well beyond its funny limit, and in cases i mean, like 18 minutes longer than needed – literally… there are some tracks like the sports stuff and ‘two first gay guys’ that even get redux tracks when the joke was played out a minute into its first one.

    avoid like the fucking plague.

  2. Ouch… maybe that’s why he didn’t work so well on sitcoms either. He needs to improv in order to be funny.

  3. his appearance on the Daily Show promoting the album was hilarious. more laughs than the actual album.
