Trailer for Frank Miller’s 300 Hits The Web

Alright now I’m not sure how long this link will stay up for, but the trailer for Zack Snyder’s upcoming adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic novel 300 has been leaking all across the web since yesterday. I’ve been looking forward to finally seeing what this movie will look like in motion; the images that were previously posted on the official website made it clear that Snyder was going for something similar to Robert Rodriguez’ take on Sin City. Specific frames from the comic are being matched in the movie using digital effects, resulting in a very striking look.

Well now that I’ve seen the trailer, ugh… there were two things I just couldn’t get past. The first is that there are so many digital backdrops that a lot of the scenes just looked empty and fake. I’m sure there is still a lot of work to do on the effects, but Sin City looked so much more seamless. The other HUGE issue I have with this trailer is the music. It’s terrible! It sounds like some sort of middle-eastern chanting that Ridley Scott would use in one of his movies, but mixed with nu metal. I really really hope this is not an indication of what the soundtrack will be like. On the bright side, I enjoyed the energized performances of many of the actors in the trailer, so maybe I won’t write this one off just yet. 300 hits theatres on March 9, 2007.

  1. Nine Inch Nails are nu metal? since when?

  2. Seriously, is that really NIN? NIN mixed with something else, or just NIN?

    Either way… OUCH.

  3. The music was pretty badass, though horrible misplaced.

I laughed out loud when he went “madness? this is sparta”…that break was just so long, everybody knows the black guy is fucked and we just wanna know what the one-liner is going to be, and it is the most over-the-top fanboyishly ridiculous line and delivery.

A bejillion arrows flying towards an army. For gods sake mix it up a little.

Other than those things, I really liked it. It could be very cool.

  4. Looks great!

That’s the time I should have been living in.

  5. Haha. Plenty of opportunities for beheadings for sure.

  6. I’m serious man. I’ve always been partial to the middle age stuff. I could be the real me back then.

  7. What’s the song called?

  8. @Henrik
It’s Nine Inch Nails – Just Like You Imagined from the Fragile Album.

  9. NIN? Nu metal?! How dare you sir. I’ve been waiting for someone to finally get a clue and use that song in a movie. >:(

  10. Hey! I just happen to like the song and the trailer and I thought they fit together perfectly! For my taste, to each thier own.

The scenes didn’t look real enough for you? Well my dear friend not everyone can meet up to your fucking standards.

So unless you can conjure up shit for the masses, I shall enjoy what get’s churned out and ignore such blasphemy. BLASPHEMY! :D

  11. Perhaps if you approached the music from a CONCEPTUAL level – celebrated graphich novel adaptation looking…JUST LIKE YOU IMAGINED – you might be able to close the door on your presently limited perspective.

  12. uhgggg thank you people for tellling this man NIN is not nu metal, and even if it was it goese perfect with the trailer honestly it made it the best friggen trailer ive ever seen for any movie..yup.

  13. This guy Sean is drunk. A visually stunning trailer that made my flesh stand on end. And to call NIN Nu Metal….drunk.

  14. Hahahaha, Sean. NIN as numetal? What in the hell kind of crack have you been smoking? Please tell me you are some 40-50 year old guy who has lost touch with reality and decided to give in to the world around him while writing about things he has no clue about. You, sir, are a complete douche. Keep listening to your Matchbox 20 albums while you change your kid’s diaper, and the rest of us will still be here talking about great music that has been matched up with what looks to be a great trailer for a great film.

  15. Hey now, I’m only in my early 40’s… You kids and your crazy “noise”.

Matchbox 20 are pretty good though, seriously.

  16. You may want to give the entire song from the cd a listen before you call it noise. This happens to be one of Trent’s more intricate songs. Reznor’s style has always been symphony like it’s contruction. Defiantely high defelity sounds.
