Trailer for Emilio Estevez’ Bobby
There’s been a lot of recent buzz surrounding the upcoming movie Bobby, written and directed by Emilio Estevez. The thing is, I can’t quite figure out what it is about the film that has people so excited. Let’s look at the facts: It boasts a pretty insane cast, that much I will concede. It’s not too often you get a movie that stars Anthony Hopkins, Helen Hunt, William H. Macy, Heather Graham, Laurence Fishburne, Sharon Stone, Lindsay Lohan, Freddy Rodriguez, Martin Sheen, Christian Slater and Ashton Kutcher. Hell, even Joshua Jackson decided to grace us with his presence once again.
Cast aside, however, I don’t really consider Emilio to be a brilliant filmmaker (granted, all I know from him is Men At Work), and I still wasn’t really sold on the movie’s concept. It’s loosely based around the night that Robert Kennedy was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in 1968, but it’s not exactly a Kennedy biopic or a political thriller. Instead, it focuses on the lives of 22 people staying in the hotel that night, and each of their stories. Wouldn’t the story of Kennedy himself be more interesting? But now that the trailer for Bobby has gone online over at Yahoo!, I see the potential in this film. Not only does it look beautifully shot, but it seems like it captures many facets of American life in the late 60’s, and a lot of issues that are still prevalent today. Count me in! Bobby opens wide on November 23rd.
