Oliver Stone Hints at Second 9/11 Movie
Although i’m a HUGE fan of the 9/11 genre (minus 9/11 romantic dramadies), I wasn’t that impressed with Oliver Stone’s World Trade Centre. In fact, I thought it was somewhat laughable at times. I think this is partly due to the fact that Paul Greengrass’ United 93 was such a powerfully visceral and amazingly realistic portrayal of the confusion and desperation of September 11th, that Stone’s overblown Hollywood-ized 9/11 came across as shallow, overly stylized, and to be honest…boring. The film seems to be recieving critical acclaim (and Oscar buzz for Nicolas Cage’s moving slow motion ‘MOOOVVVVEEEE!!!!’), and it’s come out today that Oliver Stone just might take another stab at a film dealing with the events of September 11th. Here’s what he had to say:
“It (9/11) was huge. I think it’s the basis of another film for me. I’ve started with the basics, with these men in the centre of things.”
I personally would love to see a movie that just deals with the evacuation of the actual towers themselves. I’ve watched many documentaries covering the day, and some of the craziest shit seems to come out of the stories of people running up and down the stairs looking for survivors and helping them find their way to safety. I had a MAJOR problem with Stone’s constant cutting to family members waiting to hear if their husbands where okay. This totally took me out of what was essentially a cluster-fuck of confusion and mayhem, and failed to capture the insanity of what was actually going on. Now that Stone has done his conventional tribute to America, hopefully we’ll see something a little more risky with this second film.

i think that the more movies come out on this horrible event, the more people are just going to say whatever and stop caring about it. i havent seen stones flick yet but i would like to, the only thing that i may not by is Cage, and i am a huge Cage fan. i think that they should have used unknowns in this movie instead of hollywooding it.
Posted by Chopper on September 8th, 2006I stopped caring about the movies on this event before they even came out. A documentary here and there I can handle but I don’t believe in Hollywood making money from this tragedy. I still haven’t seen WTC but considering the Buzz that it HAS been getting, I may have to find it at one of the second run theatres and give it a try though I can tell you I’m not looking forward to it.
