First Look at John Travolta in Hairspray

Not too long ago we posted a really odd picture of John Travolta kissing a man from some unknown tabloid. Well, all I have to say is you ain’t seen nothing yet. USA Today have posted the first photo of John Travolta as he appears in the upcoming remake of Hairspray, and I have to say, I almost spit out my cereal when I saw it. Travolta’s character is of course Edna Turnblad, who was played in the original by Divine. The other actress beside Travolta must be Nicole Blonsky, who plays Tracy Turnblad (played by Ricki Lake in the original). Could this be the best use of a fat suit since Gwyneth Paltrow in Shallow Hal? I’m probably going to have nightmares about this for weeks. Check out a higher resolution version via the link below.

  1. i know Travolta hasnt been in anything good since well Pulp Fiction, and maybe Good Shorty, but other than that, crap. now this Hairspray flick doesnt look like it will help his career out at all. he looks horrible in it, Divine is rollin in his/her grave.

  2. I totally disagree Mikey, I think he looks pretty hilarious, and I’m glad to see a temporary end to Trovolta’s self-serving ‘bad guy’ roles where he just smokes a cigarette and acts ‘Trovolta’.

    I was about to ask if “Hairspray” was code-language for “I love to kiss dudes”… :-)

    Funny how that story is kind of “quiet”…

  4. I wasn’t interested in seeing this at all but that sole picture is enough to get me wondering what else they’re doing with this flick. It’s now officially on my radar.

  5. Travolta played good as a woman i wish she was my mom and if i was 50 i would marry Edna lol i’m not gay he is my favorite actor great job john!
