Ellen DeGeneres To Host The 2007 Oscars

So after last year’s host Jon Stewart failed to bring in the young male demographic, looks like the Academy is going in the completely opposite direction — middle-aged housewives, to be exact. Ellen DeGeneres has been announced as the host for the 79th Annual Academy Awards on February 25th, 2007. I’m actually kind of stunned. I don’t hate DeGeneres, but I really don’t find her very funny and I don’t really see how she would be a good choice. Just imagine if they would have had Rosie O’Donnell host a few years back! Is Ellen going to bring “dancing time” or whatever other ridiculous segments she has on her talk show? To be fair, she has hosted the Emmys and the Grammys a couple of times, but somehow the Oscars just don’t really seem to fit. I probably won’t be watching either way, and considering I didn’t watch last year, I guess that explains why they might as well get someone like Ellen. But now I gotta ask the hard question that no one wants to ask… is there a gay agenda at the Oscars this year???

  1. I don’t think there’s a gay agenda, but there’s definately a GHEY agenda.

There’s only one person that should be hosting the Oscars…GEORGE CLOONEY.

  2. I think Ellen having a daytime talk show where she goofs around and has friendly chats with celebrities is probably what makes her seem like a natural host. The hosting gig isn’t really about being funny and doing your act. It’s about a few polite jokes and Ellen like Bill Crystal is somebody that is harmless enough to pull that off. I don’t think her sexuality is at all relevant as you said she has sort of become the new Wayne Brady. Funny as culture changes, I remember when the Southern Baptists were boycotting Disney because of her “coming out” and now her show’s probably a hit with many people in that same pseudo-demographic.

  3. i still think that they should let Robin Williams loose as the host of the Oscars. but then again, Ellen may do alright, i guess we can give her a shot at it. Stewart sucked, Rock was too tamed. but then again, Clooney can make it sexier!

  4. I’m with Chopper here. As it stands, the Oscars is a tighlipped awards show and that’s what makes it soooooooooo freakin’ boring. I watch because 1)I like to see who wins it and 2) once in a while you get a jem like them rappers that won for best song last year. That was THE highlight of any Oscars of at least the last 5 years. I say let Williams loose too. Now THAT would be entertaining!

I can’t say I totally hate Ellen because she does have some moments but I just don’t think she can pull this off.

  5. Steeped in gayness.

  6. Yes. It’s a gay agenda.

Horrible choice, they should just get Steve Martin back. I’ve loved Steve Martin as host.

  7. I don’t think it has anything to do with sexuality. Ellen is a brilliant comedian and
everyone should get a chance. I like Steve
    Martin but really…not again!!!

I’ll be tuning in and i’m sure she’ll be funny
    in her own kinda way.

  8. I think that everything said in the artical i just read was extremely arrogant, sexist, and rude. Ellen is much more than qualified to do this and I wouldn’t doubt for one second that this wouldn’t mean absolutely everything to her. She is a great person, she makes people who, unlike yourself, have a sense of humor, laugh and she has definately changed my life in many ways. I have complete faith in her and I know she’ll be amazing.
