New To Theatres This Weekend – Sept. 1, 2006
Nothing all that big opens in theatres today, so it will be interesting to see which (if any) of these movies can steal audiences away from their long weekend plans. Nicolas Cage stars in the latest Hollywood horror remake (The Wicker Man), while Jason Statham stars in another stylish action movie that sounds a lot like Speed only with a human being instead of a bus (Crank). Mike Judge’s Idiocracy is also in select theatres, although it looks to be playing a few more theatres than was originally announced. What are you going to see?
Crank
Idiocracy (limited)
The Illusionist (wide)
The Quiet (limited)
The Wicker Man

I’m very excited to see “Crank” just because I like to push buttons and I KNOW you guys aren’t fans of Jason Statham but it looks like fun.
I’m thrilled to hear that “The Illusionist” is opening wide this week. It’s a great little movie. May have to make a second trip to the theaters to see it.
Posted by themarina on September 1st, 2006I don’t mind Jason Statham, it’s just that all his movies are starting to blur together.
I liked The Transporter for what it was… I even liked Snatch despite some of its annoying qualities. And even Jay has to admit that Statham was in John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars. Why can’t he do more movies like that instead?
Who knows, Crank might be good. I am a bit curious. But it could also be one long, annoying music video, kind of like Domino.

the trailers for Crank dont interest me, but the reviews comparing it to Die Hard and the general plot is interesting.
