the curse of golden flowers has been seen by the mainlaind audience as one of zhang”most successful movie,”zhang can narrate a good story now compared with his formally widely criticized hero and croughing tigers”
sometimes chinese audience often react differently with western.zhang got a name by his previous hero and croughing tigers,but these movie almost ruined his name in china.so,i just offer the feeling of mainland audience towards this movie for your consideration..

Well 98% of movies I watch are subtitled. Even though I no longer have to ‘read’ english-speaking movies, the subtitles are still there.

Even though I am used to ‘reading’ movies (it’s a ridiculous term I think, but I guess its different when you’re not used to it) i still think this asian stuff is boring, and frankly I’d rather just sleep than watch it.

i have to say that i never really gotten into this genre of flicks. i just find that reading movies is a pain in the ass. i am not saying that i hate all subtitled films, there are a few out there that i liked. i just prefer to watch it and not read it.

It is what it is. I will agree that a lot of Asian cinema is hit and miss, but this guy’s movies are in a league of their own.

I can see how some would think it’s boring, especially for something considered to be a “martial arts” movie. But I would gladly watch them for the visuals alone. These movies are comparable to something like watching ballet or a really cool, stylized dance routine. They are definite works of art, and work on that level for me.

to this day I still find Crouching Tiger really boring, but Zimou I like. I wouldnt want to see 100 movies like this, but one every year and a half is just fine with me.
