Ryan Phillippe is Two-Face?

It seems those pesky Batman rumours just won’t go away… now that we know Heath Ledger is going to be playing The Joker, the internet has turned its attention to the next major role in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins sequel (now confirmed to be called The Dark Knight): Harvey Dent aka Two-Face. Some people will remember that Tommy Lee Jones was Two-Face in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever. While I’m sure everyone loved his powerful performance in that movie, I’m sad to say, he won’t be returning. Instead, there’s a lot of speculation that Ryan Phillippe may be close to landing the role. Other actors rumoured to be in the running are Liev Shreiber, Josh Lucas and Jake Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal would be pretty unlikely at this point, given the Brokeback implications of pairing him up with Ledger again. Personally I’ve never understood the hype around Josh Lucas; Shreiber might be alright. As for Phillippe, if he really is the frontrunner, I think it’s a terrible choice but hey that’s just me. He may be easy to hate (making him great for villain roles), but I just hate this trend of casting hot young actors in roles that actually deserve someone a bit older. Anyone else have thoughts on the matter?

  1. is crispin glover off of everyones radar, i mean he would have been a better choice for the Joker. i think that he would be great in a villian role for batman.

  2. I don’t think Ryan Phillippe is just good looks. The kid has talent, he just hasn’t chosen a film to really show that. But I think Chopper has brought up a good guy to fill the role. I think Glover has the look for this part.

  3. Philippe is a terible choice. He looks too young and seems to have a one note performance in all of his movies. Liev Shreiber would be a great as Harvey Dent and eventually Two-Face.

  4. Liev Schreiber would be an inspired choice. I saw him in New York in Glengarry Glen Ross and I was blown away. He is an excellent actor. He could pull Two-Face off with the same kind of weight and charm that Tommy Lee Jones brought to it.
