Another 9/11 Movie… About A Janitor?
After the limited success of Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center and Paul Greengrass’ United 93, you’d think Hollywood might get the message: moviegoers just aren’t that interested in 9/11 movies at this point in time. But apparently that’s not stopping them from turning out another story of heroism and courage, this time based on the experiences of one Mr. William Rodriguez. Who is William Rodriguez? He’s a janitor who worked in the North Tower and apparently aided firefighters in their rescue effort before being being the last person to escape the tower when it collapsed. He was buried in rubble for an hour before being rescued. Charlie Sheen and Esai Morales are in talks to star, with David Marconi (Enemy of the State) reportedly interested in writing and directing.
Here’s the interesting thing: after 9/11, Rodriguez also filed a federal lawsuit against the U.S. government, charging that the attacks were a conspiracy orchestrated by George W. Bush to justify a war in Iraq. The suit was dismissed in June, but doesn’t it seem a little hypocritical to call the guy a national hero? The lawsuit will not be a part of the movie, however, which is too bad because it’s probably the only interesting angle to the whole thing. I just can’t believe people like Charlie Sheen are trying to jump on the 9/11 bandwagon, when in fact there isn’t even a 9/11 bandwagon to begin with!

National hero may be going overboard, but that is popular thought that 9-11 was allowed to happen to justify invasions. What makes it worse that the US didn’t invade Saudi Arabia where the bin ladens and the majority of the hijackers came from.
Interersting too is that Israel had lots of “intelligence” leading up to it….so, really the “hero” bit a wake up call to Americans that they shouldn’t trust their gov’t?
When I watched “V For Vendetta” the other night, I thought of good ‘ol Jorge Boosh and 9-11.
