Monday Morning Box Office Report: Aug. 28, 2006

Looks like it was a pretty slow weekend at the box office, with Mark Wahlberg proving he still has some pull and bringing in the only big money for the weekend with Invincible. Little Miss Sunshine was a surprise hit in its first weekend in wide release, taking down Broken Lizard’s latest comedy Beerfest. I can’t believe How To Eat Fried Worms didn’t even crack the top 10… did it have limited distribution, or do parents only take their kids to see animated films now? Snakes On A Plane added an additional $6.4 million in its second week, but looks poised to disappear from theatres real soon.

1. Invincible — $17M
2. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby — $8M
3. Little Miss Sunshine — $7.5M
4. Beerfest — $6.5M
5. Accepted — $6.5M
6. Snakes on a Plane — $6.4M
7. World Trade Center — $6.39M
8. Step Up — $6.19M
9. Idlewild — $5.9M
10. Barnyard — $5.43M

  1. I’m not surprised with the results for How to eat… If anyone had seen the trailer, they would have turned the other way. I doubt even kids would be all that interested in that one. It just looked stupid.
