Another Star Wars DVD Set In 2007?

In a couple of weeks a lot of Star Wars die hards will make their way to their local DVD store to purchase the Original Trilogy on DVD in unaltered form. And for a brief moment in time, they will experience that bittersweet joy that can only come from paying for the same movies twice. But what they may not realize is that next year will likely see the release of yet another Star Wars DVD set. I kid you not.

FilmRot have learned through The Digital Bits that a 6-disc box set is currently in the works to coincide with the 30th Anniversary of the original Star Wars movie hitting theatres. In typical George Lucas fashion there will be more tinkering, including replacing the puppet Yoda in Episode I with CG, plus a ton of new special features: “…all the good stuff that was held back by Lucasfilm from the original Trilogy DVD release a few years ago. Think deleted scenes and more”. Now I’m assuming this will include the newest reworked cuts of the original trilogy rather than the unaltered ones since those are George’s faves, but the big question here is, will it be HD? Because if not, you might as well just save your money once again because you know that will probably happen the year after. I must say, this is all getting a little ridiculous. I don’t think the Star Wars movies qualify as “movies” anymore since they are constantly in flux. It’s time for someone to have an intervention with Mr. Lucas.
