Idiocracy To Get Extremely Limited Release After All
Well it looks like 20th Century Fox had a change of heart regarding the Mike Judge-directed Luke Wilson-starring comedy Idiocracy. Instead of just shelving the film, like they originally said they would do, they’ve decided to let a few people see it after all. By a few people of course, I mean only people in 7 major cities. The film will open in Austin, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, L.A. and Toronto on September 1st. No word on whether it may expand beyond that, but I suppose Fox is going to be watching closely to see how the movie is received in those markets. Strangely, they haven’t even bothered to put together a trailer for the film. How they can just throw away a Luke Wilson comedy like this is beyond me. Either they don’t get it, or this really is a terrible movie. Which do you think it is?

The article also mentioned that it would open in Toronto on September 1st as well and although torontoplus.ca and http://www.mrmovietimes.com also list it as having a limited Toronto release on September 1st, there are no advanced listings for any specific theatre. I’m guessing if anyone has it next Friday it’ll be the Cumberland.

Posted by Sean on August 25th, 2006I’m hoping this expands because I’d like to see it. I’m guessing they just don’t get it. I doubt that Judge would have made something quite that bad and that Wilson would have agreed to do it.

Nice… thanks for the update. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get to any of those places this weekend but anyone who sees it will have to give us the full rundown.
