Ron Weasley Stars In New Indie Flick Driving Lessons

Hey look! It’s the kid from Harry Potter in an indie drama! No, not that kid… the other one. It seems Rupert Grint is wisely trying to avoid getting typecast as Ron Weasley, and although it may be too late for that, this actually looks like a decent film. Driving Lessons is the directorial debut of Jeremy Brock, who co-wrote the screenplay for Kevin Macdonald’s The Last King of Scotland. It’s a coming of age movie about Ben (Grint), a shy young teenager who starts to live life after getting a job assisting a strange retired actress named Evie (Julie Walters). Although this leads to many clashes with his religious mother (Laura Linney), Ben learns to question his own beliefs and may even get himself laid! Although this type of “dramady” is becoming more and more predictable, it does look like a fun ride. And what indie film would be complete without a little Sufjan Stevens on the soundtrack? Check out the trailer over at Yahoo! now. Driving Lessons hits select theatres on October 13th.

  1. this is the best thing that he can do, something different from the Harry Potter role he plays. it sounds like a great movie and i would like to check it out. i think that all the kids will be fine after the Harry series is done, except Harry himself, i think that it will be hard for him to move on.

  2. I agree that he may have taken too long to break out of the Potter role. I already think of him as the kid from the Harry Potter movie. Even if the movie is great, I’m not sure that will ever leave him.
