Wes Craven Returns To The Last House On The Left

I’m getting kind of sick of complaining about all these damn classic horror remakes, so I’m going to try and stay positive about this announcement. There’s a new version of Wes Craven’s directorial debut Last House On The Left in the works over at Rogue Pictures, aiming to starting production in early 2007. Craven will be producing along with the original film’s producer Sean S. Cunningham and long time collaborator Marianne Maddalena. The film has some intense subject matter so I can only hope they don’t soften it up too much. Two teenage girls are kidnapped, raped and murdered by a gang, who then unknowingly seek refuge in the home of one of the victim’s parents.

As Craven says “The story, about the painful side effects of revenge, is an evergreen. The headlines are full of people and nations taking revenge and getting caught up in endless cycles of violence.” Yes, I’m sure this remake will be a great commentary on the war in Israel. Seriously though, after seeing what Alexandre Aja did with The Hills Have Eyes, I know there must be some other talented young directors out there itching to put their stamp on this movie. I’m tentatively looking forward to seeing what comes of it. Craven did also mention, however, that he is also in talks for remakes of Shocker and The People Under The Stairs. Man, I think original movies are about to become an endangered species in Hollywood.

  1. i have never seen the original and it does sound like a cool movie. i just hope that they dont get some pop tart to do this movie.
as for the people under the stairs, i didnt mind that one, but its too soon to remake that one.

  2. I have the original and with some modernistic tweaking a remake can be good as long as they maintain the rawness of it all.

And as Chopper said, no pop tarts. Better to get some quality unknowns for this. Wolf Creek had a lot of great unkown actors and it made for a realistic and disturbing movie.

  3. The original is one of those movies that can’t live up to its reputation, it does have a really nasty streak in it though, so I am not sure how he will retain that in the modern filmmaking climate.

  4. REMAKE CANNIBAL HOLOCAUSTTTTTT

  5. What was Cannibal Holocaust about?

Apparently according to you guys it felt akward, and had animal killings? But what kind of a movie is it? And did Wes Craven direct it?

  6. Think “The Blair Witch Project” goes to the Amazon in search of a cannibal tribe.

  7. By the way YouTube.com has some various clips. The animal killing was real, but they did it for consumption.

  8. They didn’t do it for consumption, they did it for the movie. They just happened to eat it afterwards.
