Catching The Fly: The Karate Kid Fan Documentary

Following up on the post Jay made a couple days ago about the Firefly fan documentary Done The Impossible, I happened to stumble across another fan documentary about that pivotal 80’s film, The Karate Kid. To be honest, at first I thought it was a joke. Can there really be that many hardcore Karate Kid fans out there? But apparently there is at least one, and he decided to make a movie about it! Catching The Fly: The Karate Kid Fan Documentary finds the director travelling across the globe to visit actual locations where The Karate Kid was shot, and talking to various fans about how the movie has inspired them. He then trains himself to enter a karate tournament. To be honest, I almost wish this was more in the vein of Trekkies where it took a quirky and off-beat approach to the fans, but instead it seems to take its subject matter pretty seriously. According to its MySpace page, the movie is currently in post-production. You can watch the trailer now via YouTube (linked below).

  1. well i have to say that i am a huge fan of the Karate Kid flicks, well the first one is a classic, the second one was not too bad, but the third and fourth suck large!
i will be interested in seeing this movie for sure.
now the question that i have, was Macchio in fact in his 30s when he did the first flick, or at least mid to late 20s. those are the rumours.
