United 93 2-disc Limited Edition Announced

United 93 is still, in my opinion, holding its own as one of the best movies of the year. It will be interesting to see how Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center compares, but it’s going to have a tough time creating the same emotions with well-known faces like Nicolas Cage in it. There was already a single-disc DVD for United 93 planned for release on September 5th, the week before the 5th anniversary of 9/11. Universal has now decided to kick it up a notch and present a 2-disc Limited Edition version of the movie on the same day. It will contain all the same features from the single-disc release including audio commentary with director Paul Greengrass and “United 93: The Families and the Film” featurette, but will also have a 48-minute documentary called “Chasing Planes: Witnesses to 9/11″. Directed by United 93 associate producer Michael Bronner, the documentary will examine the chain of events as they unfolded that day. While it seems strange that they would do a whole separate release just to add this new documentary, it is probably the feature I’d be most interested in seeing. Retail price for the United 93 Limited Edition is $30.98 US.

  1. i have no interest in seeing this at all, i will wait until the release of World Trade Center instead.

  2. But they’re two totally different movies! Just seeing WTC doesn’t mean you get the experience of both.

  3. no matter what the hype is: i expect WTC to be extremely over-sentimental. Oliver Stone wouldnt know ’subtle’ if it ran him over with a golf cart shit down his throat (ironically, not very subtle)

  4. Oliver Stone fucking rules. Goon, you’re lame.

United 93 didn’t get a release here, but I’m excited about seeing it and will pick up this DVD, the features sound awesome.

Do you think there is any chance the promotion for WTC is misleading, and that it might actually be more of a conspiracy type movie…? Just a theory, I doubt it is, but wouldn’t it be awesome?

  5. I just found out United 93 is getting released August 10th in art-house theatres… Worth seeing right?

    Grizzly Man premiere tonight…!

  6. “Oliver Stone fucking rules. Goon, you’re lame.”

Oliver Stone has made some movies I love, liked Talk Radio. I just said he’s anything but subtle, which is the truth. STone finds an angle and runs with it. WTC ads look sentimental, so with him at the helm I assume it will be very very very weepy.

  7. Yeah you may be right.. Hope you didn’t get offended, i said it tongue-in-cheek. ‘Lame’ isn’t very offensive its just funny.
