Trailer for Indie Animated Film We Are The Strange

In my travels across the web this week I somehow stumbled across the website for a rather unique and twisted looking animated film called We Are The Strange. It uses a trippy mix of anime, stop motion, modern CG, and old 8-bit graphics, a style that the movie’s creator refers to as “Str8nime”. The closest thing I can compare it to is the Dave McKean/Neil Gaiman film Mirrormask, but this looks a lot more bizarre. The movie is, and I quote: “a heart wrenching animated epic in which two lonely outcasts fight for survival when they’re caught in the middle of a deadly battle between bizarre monsters on their way to the ice cream shop”. How quaint. We Are The Strange is aiming for a premiere at Sundance next year; you can read an interview with the mysterious director M dot Strange over at Shane Neville’s blog. I’m guessing this may be a bit “out there” for the average moviegoer but if you want to see something unique and different, go check out the trailer at the official site (linked below).
