Mel Gibson: How To Lose Friends And Alienate People

British journalist Toby Young wrote a book a few years back called How To Lose Friends & Alienate People (an obvious takeoff on the Dale Carnegie book How To Win Friends and Influence People by Public Speaking). It’s about Young’s experiences writing for Vanity Fair, where he pissed off just about every powerful person in New York (it’s quite funny, worth reading). Anyway, even Young knew better than to drive drunk and spew anti-semitic comments at the cop who caught him. My point here is that Mel Gibson might as well start writing a book of his own because in the span of a few days he has managed to get all of Hollywood scrambling to disassociate themselves from him. ABC have announced that they are pulling out of a Holocaust mini-series that Gibson was in the process of producing with them, and now Disney is keeping mum in regards to the status of Gibson’s upcoming epic Mayan-language film Apocalypto. Considering how unmarketable the movie has been from the get go, I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets swept under the rug in the wake of Mel’s drunken foolishness. Poor Mel. Will he ever work in this town again?

  2. The moustache fucking rules.

Mel Gibson is a cool fucked up dude. People are stuck up about the jews though… Seriously. Who cares if he hates them, as long as he makes them money? They should just expose him as a big hipocrit for working for jews, and making money for jewish companies while saying these things…

The passion wasn’t anti-semitic at all in any way shape or form, it was just a boring movie.

  3. Gibson’s always been on my shortlist of hack directors who get too much credit. If there’s a hope in hell that he won’t be directing anytime soon (or ever again?), then I’ll be very happy.

  4. The fact they’re (the jewish groups in California) are trying to have him charged with hate crimes and as a terrorist. Thats rich! Disagree with jews and get labelled as a terrorist. (hence why you only see pro israeli stances on television)

Even if it did happen the way it is being reported (which I am highly suspicious of) why hasn’t anybody said that he acted out as a result of what Israel is doing to citizens in Lebanon? This just seems all to convienient for the hateful jews that want to prosecute him.

The whole thing stinks of gefilte fish!

  5. Yes, Mel Gibson getting arrested for DUI is clearly a Jewish conspiracy to persecute him.

  6. Bottom line, the moron was drinking and driving. Why would anyone defend him?

  7. I have no problem with him being arrested for drinking and driving….its all the alleged stuff of after the arrest that makes me suspicious.

Who gets arrested and starts talking about jews? Something doesn’t add up if you don’t add some conspiracy to the mix.

  8. He was highly intoxicated, was he not?

  9. He actually admitted that he made anti-semitic remarks and publicly apologized for them. Was he set up? Blackmailed?

  10. Well… I do believe he actually did say those things. Grow up with a father who believes the jews are lying about the holocaust, and you’ll be affected.

He is probably not as big an anti-semite as its been made out, but if you have some sort of grudge against jews deep down inside you, then Israel bombing Lebanon + plenty of alcohol, could very well make it well up inside you, and then it sucks to get arrested and when you’re pissed off and drunk, you tend to blame all sorts of people…

Who cares though? I mean really, jews have to grow up.

Personally I think its hilarious that he’d go “Jews are horrible” and then turn to the cop “…you’re not a jew are you?”

  11. I can take the conspiracy a step further up the ladder and say that the jews are trying to distract us with this while they’re killing innocents in Lebanon.

  12. But that wouldn’t be fair, because they’ve been doing that for 50 years.

  14. Henrik: http://www.antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=9459 are the details you aren’t supposed to know about, but rather how they suffer at the hands of Mel Gibson.

  15. Thats funny Goon. :)

  16. Baychuk, because of past things you’ve said about race I’m usually skeptical when stuff comes from you, to be quite honest.

but basically, yeah, I havent had anything nice to say about Israel throughout this whole thing. The Lebanese have built a democracy, a good one – and have been working to try and send Hezbollah back to Syria. NO they havent been entirely successful but it seems Israel is blaming ALL of Lebanon for the acts of a few and showing no distinction between innocents and the supposed targets. To me they haven’t had any moral authority, and in fact their actions will probably spur further involvement from other nations, only make Iran and Syria and others think they were right all along. basically – create more terrorists. Israel has as much right to DEFEND themselves as any nation has, but I don’t think thats really what they are doing anymore… I dont want to get too much into a political thing here and might even delete this post should people start flaming too harsh, but thought I’d let you know….

  17. Gibson first started to lose it when he did the Passion of the Christ flick. he is off his rocker. and what the hell is this new movie he is doing in another language again. this will be a BOMB!!!!

  18. Goon, you shouldn’t prejudge. There are certain issues no doubt, but hardly applicable to all at every waking moment. Depends on a lot of things in various shades of grey. Best not to over simplify.

  19. Don’t forget Hezbollah is a self appointed group for defending from Israel border infringement. Remember the massacre back in ‘82? Well, Hezbollah was created after that. Kinda like the Guardian Angels for Lebanon and the PLO for Palestinians.

Anybody who opposes what Israel does, or defends themselves from their aggression are automatically labelled as “terrorists”.

The newsmedia is equally biased. They’ll report the various deaths of Lebanese with remote sadness and then play it up when they say how unfair it is to Israelis having to worry about crude rockets landing on their homes and spending time in shelters. Home made rockets are a lot deadlier than airstrikes with US made fighter jets you know. (sarcasm) Whats the death toll ratio now? 750 Lebanese to 30 Israelis? Not to mention the areas of Lebanon that are completely destroyed.

And this whole thing started on the basis of two kidnapped Israeli soldiers? Lots of questions on that one too. Seems like Israel wanted any excuse to go into Lebanon. They have honed its facade of an innocent nation surrounded by enemies to perfection.

  20. actually to tell you the truth, while the media is usually very predictable i find so far they’ve been quite fair in their coverage. i think they realize how serious this is and that they cant just blindly follow one side or the other….
i think perhaps since the government (both Canada and US) cant seem to come to a position and stand with it, the temptation to tow the line for patriotic reasons hasnt really been the issue it normally is.

  21. I’m just going to come clean here right now (obviously the WRONG place to have a debate like this but who cares) and say that I pretty much hate Israel.

I hate how it was founded, I hate how its being ruled, and I hate its justification.

I’m not too big on arabs either, I try to hate (read: love) unprejudiced, but I support them in questioning Israel.

Conondrum: Does Israel represent Jews? Does America represent Americans? I’d say that it does. It is a democracy so I assume the way its being ruled is the will of the majority of the people. The minority is not accounted for, and as such can not be taken into consideration in this scenario. I will say this:

    Jews are warmongers.

  22. Henrik, what you said is only being validated by their actions. The United States has vetoed any kind of punishment, talks, ceasefires, political reprimands, yet continues monetary and military support because the US is run by the foreign entity that is Israel.

Why is the US in Iraq, because Israel felt threatened by supposed weapon’s of mass destruction. Iraq and Iran had a remote possibility of having a nuclear weapon, but lest we forget about Israel’s 100 or so nukes plus their biological and chemical weaponary for defensive purposes only (of course).

    GOON
Yeah, they are covering both sides, but at the same time they make the deaths of two Israelis much more tragic than the death of 30 Lebanese. That is wrong in my eyes. The Canadian gov’t should be neutral, but Harper (how I despise him NOW) is sucking up to Bush and the Jewish support group who will ensure another Conservative win for him if he continues to obey and read the speeches they wrote for him.

  23. the US vetoing anything against Israel is nothing new. back when the Iraq War started, around 71 items against israel had been vetoed by the US, they continue to not push for any ceasefire. Several high ups in the Bush administration are directly involved in Israel’s foreign policy, Richard Perle for example.
I dont know what to believe about the start of the Iraq war anymore. Israel has a part to play, yes it is dumb how they get to hold weapons, and how the US itself is violating international treaties they have signed and at this very moment creating biological weapons.

I dont know that I’ve seen the media make more out of Israels’ death than the Lebanese, i guess it depends on what you look at. I know the polls arent exactly swinging in Israels’ favor though.

Its a bad time to have elected leaders with really religious beliefs, it may be tinfoil thinking but sometimes its like they are willingly trying to act out Bible prophecy, trying to force other nations against Israel. I feel bad for the Israeli people, they have little to no say in anything that is going on. And the Lebanese as well, Beirut is supposedly a great city and the nation becoming a great example of democracy for the middle east, and now some paint it like it had never made any strides to be what the rest of the world asked it to be.

here’s an example of mainstream media pushing back as what Israel is doing…

  25. now to clarify, i dont think thers a ‘good guy’ here – i dont support flat on hatred of the Jews, i dont think thats fair or accurate. there are some, and there have always been some, who care more about Israel than Canada or the US or where they currently live – and I do agree that Hezbollah are indeed a problem as they butt in for other countries and really grey peoples mindsets about whether or not they are acting on another countries’ leaders behalf – their actions certainly escalate tensions between nations that may not be as severe otherwise. My concerns against Israel in this conflict almost entirely come from the fact that I find their action extremely sloppy, hitting areas Hezbollah is not, incompetent military action that takes way more innocent life than the supposed true problem. They are attacking one of their only allies in the region – a democracy… in the name of democracy. Their excuse is that they say ’sorry’ after they hit innocents, and thats no excuse to me. They have empowered already extreme hatred against them. Their sloppy action is doing more to destroy their nation than their enemies have over the past few decades.

  27. Here is another good video on Israel’s actions. Feel the tension with the Israeli trying to squirm his way out.
