Stephen Chow Favoured To Star In Bruce Lee Biopic

The family of Bruce Lee want to put the true story of his life up on the big screen for audiences to see, and it may start production as early as next year. But wait a minute, you ask, didn’t they already make a Bruce Lee biopic? Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story was the 1993 film directed by Rob Cohen and starring Jason Scott Lee, but apparently there were a lot of inaccuracies in that film and in popular culture in general up to this point. “Bruce Lee’s family didn’t make its opinions known because they understood people’s passion about Bruce Lee,” states a press release from the production company, Beijing Jian Yongjia. But now in their old age they want to set the record straight. The new movie will be based on a biography written by Bruce Lee’s brother, Lee Chun-fai, out on November 25th. As for who might play Bruce Lee, there are strong rumours indicating that Chinese filmmaker and movie star Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) is the frontrunner to play the lead role. His popularity overseas is unmatched, and I for one think it would be great to see him in a more serious dramatic role. Plus he does kind of look the part. He may just have to put off that Kung Fu Hustle sequel a little while longer.
