Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe Extended Edition in December

The 2006 holiday season is still a ways off, but I suppose if you want to be technical we are now closer to the next Christmas than last year’s Christmas. Which means studios are already starting to gear up for their big holiday season money makers, and since the next installment in the Narnia series won’t hit theatres until summer 2008, it’s time for yet another DVD release! Buena Vista have announced The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Four-Disc Extended Edition coming this December, with a new extended cut of the movie that runs 150 mins (that’s 150 minutes too long for me). Other than that, the first 2 discs of the set are basically the same as the film’s previous 2-disc DVD release, the 3rd disc features a documentary called “C.S. Lewis: The Dreamer of Narnia”, and the 4th disc has a “Visualizing The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe: The Complete Production Experience” featurette, “Anatomy of a Scene: Behind the Battle”, and an art gallery. This will be a limited release, available for only 7 weeks over the holidays. Retail price is $42.99 US, or $79.99 if you want the gift set with special bookends. Both hit stores on December 12th.

  1. Argh! The mo-fos! I knew it! :(

I liked the book series and I liked the movie enough that I will buy this. My only quibble, is I wish it were a bit more gory/violent (not exteme, but enough to be serious) to contrast the coming of age message in it.

  2. i really liked the books as well and i thought that the movie was great, i might just have to buy this version.

  3. there is no reason for this, the movie was horrible.

  4. Ok James.

  5. lol. it is.

  6. Well, what makes it horrible? And horrible is a strong word.

  7. bad acting, bad story, crappy cgi. I just hated it. If you enjoyed it then thats cool, i’m not trying to start something. lol.

  8. I didn’t like it that much. Wouldn’t say it was horrible, but just a kiddie version of LOTR basically.

  9. Well LOTR sucked, so I guess I won’t be seeing this.

  10. I guess you guys don’t like medieval based fantasy in general….but I’ll bet you love Star Trek…which I hate. :P

  11. Well, I love both LOTR and Star Trek, so make of that what you will. I will admit that in general I gravitate more towards sci-fi than fantasy. But I didn’t find Narnia to be all that “medieval” per se. It’s okay for what it is, I’m sure I’ll see Prince Caspian when it comes out.

  12. I enjoyed the LOTR films, but I also hate Star Trek. So it seems we agree on something bassmasta

  13. I think you have to appreciate the books to enjoy the movies. Narnia is basically LOTR for kids, but as I’ve said it could have been way better in terms of making it more dark.

Like Star Wars Espisode I…..it seems like a lot of people are just programmed to hate it. I didn’t. I thought it was better than Part II but not as good as III. The kid that played young Anakin made me laugh, especially when he was racing the pod.

I dunno. There is no perfect movie, so we just have to graviate through our gut feelings on what appeals to us.

Just like if politics, if we all agreed on it, then we’d always have majority governments.
    :D
