Burger King To Produce Feature Film as 90 Minute Advertisement
You might think this next bit of news is a joke, but apparently it’s the real deal. We all know the marketing power that movies can have, and the plague that product placement has become in this day and age. We also know that sometimes an entire movie can be created just for advertising purposes (a certain Disney theme park ride comes to mind). But the recent announcement that Burger King wants to create their own feature film is pretty hard to see as anything less than a potential disaster. Cinematical has the news via Advertising Age, and of course they bring up a couple similar movies including Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, and the thinly veiled McDonald’s endorsement that was Mac and Me. It’s unclear exactly what Burger King execs think they can pull off, but apparently the film will take place mainly in an apartment above a Burger King, and will be a “cross between Napoleon Dynamite, Garden State, Raising Victor Vargas and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” Right. Sounds like they’ve got all their demographics figured out already. BK has been shopping the idea around to 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures, and hope to shoot it for under $10 mil. I’m pretty sure this thing is destined to be a box office bomb and a cult classic all at once.

i WISH this was going to be another mac and me, but doesn’t sound like it.

I sure hope you’re half-right.
