Trailer for Hollywoodland starring Ben Affleck
I remember hearing something about this movie a while back and I’m excited to see that it’s close to being released now. Hollywoodland is based on the true unsolved mystery of the death of 50’s Superman TV star George Reeves. At the time his death was ruled a suicide, but many things found at the scene of the crime seemed to indicate otherwise. Reeves’ mother hired private investigator Jerry Geisler to look further into the circumstances of his death. Adrien Brody stars as the private investigator, while Ben Affleck plays Reeves and Diane Lane plays Toni Mannix, wife of MGM exec Eddie Mannix, with whom Reeves was reportedly having an affair. This is definitely good timing for the movie to come out, although if they were smart they would have ran the trailer before Superman Returns! Director Allen Coulter has previously directed a lot of HBO TV episodes, including The Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Rome. Hollywoodland opens in select theatres on September 8th.

He gets waaaaay too much abuse for no reason.

Posted by Bassmasta-Baychuk on July 6th, 2006Affleck looked good shouting in the trailer.
He’s an alright actor, maybe not worthy of all the hate, but he did act in some shit movies.
“Reindeer Games”, “Forces of Nature”, “Phantoms”, “Bound”….
He was alright in Changing Lanes, i thought his best scene was when he got angry with the priest in the confessional and yelled at him. He does seem to have a more raw side where some emotion gets out, but of course in stuff like Pearl Harbor it wouldn’t fit.
I’m looking forward to this.
Posted by Henrik on July 6th, 2006I think Affleck gets too much flack. Poor guy. He has talent but he has taken some major hits - particularly in the rags - which has really affected him with the movies. “Jersey Girl” was not NEARLY as bad as people made it out to be.
I think this looks great and I agree, the timing couldn’t be better.
Posted by themarina on July 6th, 2006I certainly don’t have anything against Affleck. He has been in some good movies, and some really bad ones. But I think he’ll be good in this and it will be good for his career overall.
