I’m so sick of Lex Luthor, and for him to be the best part of this movie really wounded me.

saw it today, i give it a 2.5 – i didnt hate it, but its hardly essential viewing… I liked Spacey, I liked Routh, hell I even liked Bosworth and Posey and Marsden… acting? didnt bother me. dialogue? didnt bother me. story? didnt bother me.

its the pace, and its the timing… i think despite a number of good shots, its overly long, not well edited, and some things are milked for way more than they are worth. and dont get me started on that bullet to the eye shot…

I think this could be ‘phantom edit’ed into a very good movie, but as it is, its a bit of a wank fest.

I partially agree with the review. Although it wasn’t what I was expecting (big action), I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I think one of the major problems is that this isn’t the Superman people have grown up with. I didn’t grow up with Superman and although I like Superman II, I’ve never though it was fantastic. For me, this was a great introduction to a relatively new character. Sure, I’ve heard of Superman but I’ve never gotten to know him.

I really thing this is a great starting point for the next film.

i still havent gone to see it. i’m in no rush… but I’m just going to put it out there again that my expectations were always low…

and I never liked the first set of Superman movies. at all.

I too was disappointed. It starts off really well and then like you said takes a big nose dive. That kid storyline, c’mon. seriously. Weak.

This movie was a dissapointment. It was more like a lame family movie. I enjoyed the incredibles more than this movie. the whole idea that Lois Lane has a child is bad. Lex Luthor was the whole f’n movie. he stole the show from superman. Superman himself was not a bad character but he wasn’t in the movie as much as Luthor and Lois Lane and that annoying kid.The idea of Lois Lane being a mommy is horrible. Superman Returns won’t make as much money as the highly anticipated Priates of the Carribean sequal. It will be similar to Peter Jackson’s King Kong. I still say that Batman Begins was a way better movie than superman returns.

Yeah, it really was a disappointment. The only improvement that this movie has over the original is Lex Luthor and Kitty, who are still a little ridiculous for Superman villains but handled way better than Luthor and his cronies were in the past. My favourite scene had to be the payoff when Kitty confronted Lex after her “runaway car” scene and that’s not saying much for a Superman movie. Overall, the strongest suit this movie has is its humour which is pretty sparse anyway.
