Trailer for IFC Documentary “This Film Is Not Yet Rated”
I’ve always been curious about the process of rating films. The MPAA has never been the most consistent in dishing out their judgments, and for most filmmakers an NC-17 rating is a huge problem. It makes marketing the film extremely difficult, and it limits the number of theatres that will show it. I can only imagine how infuriating it must be to cut up your art just to appease the whims of some mysterious group. Well now director Kirby Dick (Twist of Faith) has decided he’s not taking it anymore, and that someone needs to find out who these people are and what makes them tick. This Film Is Not Yet Rated finds Dick hiring a private dick (how ironic) to track down members of the ridiculously powerful MPAA ratings board, and interviewing various filmmakers who have had run-ins with censorship including John Waters, Atom Egoyan, Darren Aronofsky, Matt Stone and Kevin Smith. As luck would have it, the MPAA also gave the original cut of this movie an NC-17 rating. This Film Is Not Yet Rated will air on IFC in the fall, I’m not sure if it will actually makes it way to theatres or not. A trailer has now gone online, check it out at the link below.
