Ron Howard and Tom Hanks Likely To Return For “Angels & Demons”

Despite poor critical reviews and a disappointing box office drop off, The Da Vinci Code still pulled in some serious money in its opening weekend. Which pretty much guarantees that Dan Brown’s so-called prequel to The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, will eventually hit the big screen as well. According to Sony Pictures Vice Chairman Amy Pascal, they still have Ron Howard in mind to direct, and Tom Hanks to reprise his role as Robert Langdon. Rumours persist that they may replace Hanks with a younger actor… which is pretty silly if you ask me. Tom Hanks was perfectly suited for the demographic that the movie appealed to. Some film critics blasted his performance in the film, but personally I just felt that the character of Robert Langdon was not a very interesting one. At any rate, Angels & Demons supposedly has a lot more action in it, and the general belief is that it will probably make for a better film. Odds are it won’t happen for a couple years though; as Moviehole points out, both Hanks and Howard have a number of things on their plate over the next little while. Well, at least it gives me plenty of time to read the book (oh who am I kidding, I’ll wait until the week before the movie is released, as usual).
