Starship Troopers 3 In The Works
I’m not quite sure why, but apparently a third Starship Troopers movie will be heading into production sometime this year. The original Starship Troopers certainly polarized audiences, but can we all at least agree that it was much better than the direct-to-DVD sequel, Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation? (Alright so I admit, I never saw it… did anyone?) Ed Neumeier (Robocop, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid) will be writing the script once again, although there’s no mention of a director as of yet. In my opinion, if you can’t get Paul Verhoeven then why even bother? I guess one interesting thing about this third film is that some of the original cast members may be returning — specifically Casper Van Dien, who will reprise his role as Johnny Rico. On his own website’s message board he had this to say: “The script is along the same line as the first. It is Awesome.” Which we can probably translate to mean: “I have no money and can’t get any good acting gigs so I have no choice but to do this movie.” Oh SNAP!

To me, the first Starship Troopers is probably the best NON Star Wars sci-fi movie. Its got a great combination of drama, camp and gore and serious violence!
The second one tried to continue off the first, but with a much, much, much lower budget. Almost looked like it was filmed on stage with the effects added in as an after thought. The execution was very bad.
If anyone is to do a movie like this, let alone a part III, you have put the money into it. Look at War of the Worlds….big budget movie that showed very well in terms of effects and quality.
ON a side note: CGI is at home with Sci-fi, but doesn’t belong in horror or supernatural movies.

So excited!
Posted by Bassmasta-Baychuk on June 1st, 2006My first thought was “What happened to the sequel?” I OBVIOUSLY missed that all together. Though I liked the first one, the fact that I totally missed the second doesn’t fare well for the 3rd.
