It looks like Marvel and Lion’s Gate are still committed to their series of feature length animated movies, although unfortunately instead of following up the Ultimate Avengers movie with a different franchise, they have decided to churn a sequel first. Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther has been announced for a direct to DVD release this August, and as the title implies, the story finds Black Panther teaming up with the Avengers in Africa in order to take on a horde of alien invaders. I thought the first Ultimate Avengers movie was okay, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed with the animation quality and the rushed nature of the story. I don’t know that I’m interested enough in Black Panther to give this one a look. The DVD will also include “The Ultimates” featurette, a gag reel, a DVD-ROM feature called “What Avenger Are You?” and first looks at the upcoming Iron Man and Dr. Strange animated movies. The release date will be August 8th, and the suggested price is $19.99 US.
