Finally! The Wizard is Coming to DVD
Anyone who grew up in the 80’s surely remembers the landmark movie The Wizard, which of course was a thinly veiled advertisement for Nintendo disguised as a coming of age story starring (among others) Fred Savage and Christian Slater. I recently had the opportunity to take in this classic again at a birthday party for our friend Katie, and there were a lot of laughs and a lot of strange memories to be had. The movie features such classic moments as a bad ass Power Glove demonstation, the world unveiling of Super Mario Bros 3, and of course the most memorable line of all, “He touched my breast!” Strange though it may seem, this movie was never available on DVD up to this point, and fans had to make keep the memories alive with old worn-out VHS copies of the thing. That will all end on August 29th when The Wizard finally gets the DVD release it deserves. On the downside, it looks like there’s no audio commentary from director Todd Holland (Wonderfalls) or any of the cast members. (Well… let’s be realistic here, there’s no bonus material at all.) But for the low price of $10.95, you can’t afford NOT to own a piece of your childhood on DVD. Check out X-Entertainment for more images and video clips from this modern masterpiece.
