The Weird Al Show Coming To DVD
Regardless of what you think of Weird Al as a musician, you have to admit he’s been a pretty successful comedian and all around entertainer over the years. His 1989 film UHF is a prerequisite on just about anyone’s list of best comedies, and now it looks like his short-lived but cult classic TV series is coming back out of the vaults and onto DVD. The Weird Al Show ran for 13 episodes on CBS Saturday mornings from 1997 to 1998. I don’t really remember much about it, but it has been speculated that the show would have done much better at the time if it hadn’t been pushed as a kid’s show. The show included guest appearances from such personalities as Drew Carey, Fred Willard, Gilbert Gottfried, Randy “Macho Man” Savage, Alex Trebec, and many others. Shout! Factory will release the complete series as a 3-disc set, with extras that include animation storyboards, art galleries, and a karaoke version of the theme song, along with audio commentary on each episode by Weird Al, producer Tom Frank and director Peyton Reed, plus some of the cast members such as Judy Tenuta and Emo Philips. It hits stores on August 15th for a suggested price of $34.98.

Sweet! I’ll be buying this. I barely remembered the show too until this preview. I’ll probably appreciate it more now than back then.
Weird Al deserves recognition. Little known fact, my dad and his dad were on the same boat over from Yugoslavia…Walter Ostanek is another in the “Polka Circle”.
