Clerks 2 Gets A New Release Date
There’s been a lot of speculation (on Film Junk at least!) about the upcoming box office showdown between Kevin Smith’s Clerks sequel and cult fave Snakes On A Plane, both of which were scheduled for release on August 18th. Well, it looks like The Weinstein Co. decided to blink first, and slapped Clerks II with a new, earlier release date. The new date is July 21st, basically a full month earlier, which puts the movie up against M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady In The Water, and the computer animated film Monster House instead. Via MySpace, Kevin Smith called the new release date “a ballsy move that says ‘Fuck you: we’re a five million dollar flick and we’re coming out in the fucking middle of the summer, bitches!’ “. He claims that with Clerks II premiering at Cannes on May 26th, the Weinsteins wanted the movie out sooner to follow up on any buzz it might create. But we all know that’s just damage control… the truth is, no one wants to face the box office behemoth that is Snakes On A Plane!

I’m looking forward to watching this, only because I loved the original CLERKS. I think Kevin Smith is at his best with these types of movies. Chasing Amy was really good too as we see the more “serious” side of Kevin.
I’m sure part two won’t be as good as the first, but I’m sure they’ll be some good moments or laughs.
I think a Kevin Smith movie where all the characters meet up at a high school reunion would be grand…but not for another 10 yrs or so.
Posted by Bassmasta-Baychuk on May 15th, 2006I must be one of the few people alive who’s not all that interested in “Snakes on a Plane”. I’d see “Clerks II” regardless. Either way, I’m there!
Posted by themarina on May 15th, 2006Snakes do nothing for me. They don’t scare me nor do I like them. The over use of CGE…now that scares me.
LoL
