THQ Announces Sopranos Video Game

Apparently EA’s recent video game adaptation of The Godfather was successful enough to inspire yet another mafia-licensed game, this time based on the HBO hit series The Sopranos. Publisher THQ announced last week that they will be bringing The Sopranos game out in time for this year’s holiday season, and it will be available for the X-Box 360 and Playstation 2. The game will feature the likeness and voice of Tony Soprano himself, James Gandolfini, although participation of the rest of the cast has not been confirmed. Strangely, instead of playing as Tony Soprano in the game, you will take control of Sal “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero’s illegitimate son and work your way up through the ranks of the organization. Other recurring characters from the show will make an appearance, as will familiar locations such as the Bada Bing! strip club. The game’s development will also have involvement from The Sopranos creator David Chase, who will be overseeing an all-new original storyline. Am I interested in this game? Not really. What I’m waiting for is someone to develop a mafia related MMORPG, which I’m sure will come along any day now.

  1. I’m interested in the idea, but the dialogue and plot has to be very “above the bar”….dialogue as in “Manhunt” (GREAT voice acting is a must!) and plots akin to “Grand Theft Auto”….I’d really like to see this succeed.

  2. Yeah, it’s an interesting concept but I’m not sure if it will deliver or not….One of my fav tv shows, not sure if it will be a great game or not…

BTW, heard you guys on TMB Audio Edition and glad I stopped by…

  3. Hey CrzyDJM, thanks for stopping by… I love The Sopranos too but I agree that a game will probably not be anything special. The show is good because it’s more than just brawls and shoot outs. Although I guess The Godfather game got okay reviews, and those movies had even less action than The Sopranos.

THQ is also not a publisher I generally associate with quality, but I guess it depends who is actually developing the game.

  4. Hell yeah! I want wack Tony. Please? Pretty please? It’ll be beautiful revenge for the crapfest that this last season of the Sopranos is turning out to be.

  5. this is going to be a waste of money!
