Rome Season 1 Coming To DVD in August
HBO has announced a DVD release for one of their newest TV series, the historic epic Rome, which if I’m not mistaken is now known as the most expensive TV show ever produced. The first season opens around 52 B.C., with Julius Caesar taking over power from his friend and mentor Pompey, before eventually being assassinated himself. The show features real historical people interwoven with plots involving fictional characters, and is quite dense with historic accuracy and attention to detail. Rome: The Complete First Season includes all 12 episodes on 6 discs, and also comes packed with extras. Among the supplementary material we have 8 audio commentary tracks from the cast and crew, “All Roads Lead To Rome”, an on-screen guide prepared by the show’s historical consultant Jonathan Stamp, 2 shot by shot featurettes dissecting specific scenes, and a handful of featurettes on sets, wardrobe, characters, and the culture of Roman life. It hits stores on August 15th for a suggested retail price of $99.98 US.

I may take a chance on this purchase as I love settings in ancient warring nations and gladiatoresque themes. Basically a continuation on Greek Mythology, but on Roman terms.

Posted by Chopper on April 24th, 2006Finally! We poor-non-HBO-subscribers have to wait for all the good shows to come on DVD. ROME and that movie that preceded all the immigration marches here in the US, “Stand Up.”
I’m not going to buy it – I’ll just rent it then burn it
